With an effective modal bandwidth (EMB, also known as laser bandwidth) of 4700 MHz-km (more than double the IEEE requirement for 10 Gb\/s with 300-meter support), the OM4 fiber is also particularly well-suited for shorter distances in data centers and for high-performance computing applications. At lower data rates, such as 100 Mb\/s or 1 Gb\/s, the OM4 performs on par with OM2 or OM3 fibers. OM4 fiber truly shines at data rates of 10 Gb\/s and 40 Gb\/s with ranges of 550m and 300m respectively.
