Slimline CAT6A U/FTP data center Ethernet cables have a smaller diameter (3.8 mm versus 5.9 mm) than standard CAT 6A patch cables. Their bend radius is smaller than standard patch cables, resulting in better airflow in the server rack/network closet. While ISO/IEC and TIA standards recommend using patch cables between 22 and 26 AWG, 32 AWG patch cables can be used. This provides greater attenuation, especially at higher frequencies. ACT recommends a maximum bundle of 24 cables in PoE applications. This will prevent the temperature of the cables powering the PoE deployments from rising. The ANSI TSB-184-A standard limits the maximum temperature rise to less than 15 degrees Celsius above ambient for the central cable of a bundle.
