The OM4 fiber is a 50 m optimized fiber with extended bandwidth. It is used to improve system performance for existing 1 and 10 Gb/s applications, as well as future 40 and 100 Gb/s applications. The OM4 fiber supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OIF applications for longer distances exceeding 550 m at 10 Gb/s, and for extremely long building backbones and medium-length campus backbones. With an effective modal bandwidth (EMB, also known as laser bandwidth) of 4700 MHz-km (more than double the IEEE requirement for 10 Gb/s with 300-meter support), the OM4 fiber is also particularly well-suited for shorter distances in data centers and for high-performance computing applications. At lower data rates, such as 100 Mb/s or 1 Gb/s, the OM4 performs on par with OM2 or OM3 fibers. OM4 fiber truly shines at data rates of 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s with ranges of 550m and 300m respectively. All ROLINE OM4 fiber optic cables are duplex cables.
