The legal basis for all first-aid facilities in industry, commerce, administration, and educational institutions is the Workplace Regulation ASR A4.3. The type and scope of the first-aid facilities that must be available depend on the risk assessment within the company. The employer is responsible for the assessment and implementation of appropriate measures. For small first-aid kits, the contents specified in DIN 13157 serve as a guideline. Excerpt from the accident prevention regulations: a) in administrative and commercial establishments with 1 to 50 employees: 1 first-aid kit according to DIN 13157; b) in manufacturing and processing establishments with 1 to 20 employees: 1 first-aid kit according to DIN 13157; c) on construction sites with 1 to 10 employees: 1 first-aid kit according to DIN 13157. First-aid kits according to DIN 13157 can also be used for field service activities. For larger areas within a company spanning different buildings or multiple floors, additional first-aid containers should be provided.
